Chicago Cubs xxxx ERROR Road Jersey RARE "Only 14 Made"
With only 14 of these made and the Cubs on a 100+ year streak with no World Series appearances this item is very Rare.
In xxxx I had a store selling sports memorabilia and fan souvenirs. The Cubs had just changed their road jersey and I ordered a shipment from Rawlings. They took forever to come in as the demand was great. I opened the box and disappointed to see only 14 jerseys. At the time they retailed for about $85.
As I was taking them out of the box to hang them up for sale I realized 'Chicago' was spelled wrong. I was upset since I had a long list of customers to call. I called some newspapers and TV stations and they loved the story. As you can see from the attached pictures, I was in the Chicago Sun-Times and Tribune and it got picked up by AP and it made some other papers around the country. I was also on Radio talking about them.
Everyone loved the story that the Cubs have no luck and can't even get their Jersey spelled correctly. At the time Rawlings really wanted these Jerseys back. They were upset with me for keeping them.
I sold 12 of the 14 Jerseys in a matter of a week. They went for up to $1,400. I have one framed with the articles for myself and this is the last one I have for sale. Since it is now 24 years later and the Cubs still haven't won or appeared in a World Series it is still a great collectible.
This is a perfect gift for a Cub fan to show they have trouble winning and spelling.
